Name: Kanin de la Pine, Type: Green Door: Bypassed Canon: OC Canon Point: After betraying Dusk and Dawn. Age: Robot. 18-20-ish mentally. Appearance: PB. History: There is a world, similar to Earth, but not quite. In that world, humans exist, just like Earth. In that world, humans tell stories, just like Earth. In fact, they tell many of the same stories. But in that world, something changed. At some point, the sheer narrative weight of certain stories broke through, and stories began to manifest in the world. Monsters attacked people. Pigs would talk (but only certain ones, of course). The more a story had been told, the more weight its characters had. Over time, humans began to migrate into a city that became known as only the Capital. And, well... In a story, the Capital is where everything happens. Monsters began to appear at the Capital more than anywhere else. People became desperate. So, scientists came up with an idea: They created robots, empty shells, and waited for the story to come to life. Protectors, who would stand up to defend humanity from all harm. Protectors who would always, always fight for the right cause, no matter what. In other words: Magical girls. And it worked. The robots soon came to life, waking up and taking steps. They appeared robotic and acted the part at first, but strangely, miraculously, the more human they acted, the more human they appeared. As they gained emotional depth and a greater sense of self, their appearances reflected this, until they were indistinguishable from humans. These scientists provided a base for these robot girls. A home. They all quickly became close, a family. The ArcheTypes, based on colors, each of them holding within them the archetype of a hero. Type: Green, the trickster. Type: Blue, the wanderer. Type: Red, the anti-hero. Type: White, the martyr. Type: Indigo, the prophet. Type: Pinkest Heart, the... well, the Mary Sue. And then there were two, twins. Type: Dawn and Type: Dusk. The Good Witch, and the Wicked Witch. (There were others, as well. Type: Gold, the princess. Type: Silver, the knight in shining armor. Type: Yellow, the strongwoman. Type: Black, who wins only when backed into a corner. But they aren't relevant to this story.) The girls weren't to only have lives of fighting, of course. It was important to let them have lives of their own- Cover stories, as it were. The magical girl narrative required it, and frankly, it would have been cruel not to. So, while they lived together, each girl had their own life, their own cover story, and they named themselves. Human names, to not let on who they really were. This was Kanin's first mistake, as when she was asked, she panicked and came out with a couple of stupid rabbit puns that stuck. Getting started was hard, for her. Still, the group managed to get a good start. They fought monsters, killing them (temporarily, because stories never really die, do they?) and saved people. But early on, Kanin noticed something: She wasn’t as powerful as the rest of them. She couldn’t be as heroic as them. Even other people wouldn’t praise her, she was always just an extra. She laughed it off, she pretended she was fine, but she wanted to be a real hero, too. But her only skills were hiding and trickery… How could someone like that be a hero? But she quashed those feelings down, even as resentment built up. She had never asked for any of this, after all. She would rather have been a color like pink, or have been a more heroic archetype. Someone cuter. Someone stronger. Someone more well-loved. But even if she told anyone, who would believe her? Since her powers were all based around lying, everyone would just assume it was fake. With that doubt festering inside her, she continued to fight. Her partner, Type: Blue, helped her- She was happy when she was with Blue, and Blue- Her power was based on new things, so the trickery and deceit Green brought kept things fresh. They fought at each other’s side for years. But even that got old. Stale. Blue began to lose power just by being around Green, because they knew each other too well. Green was losing hope, and unsure what she was fighting for. She was certain she was the group’s weak link, and would eventually fall behind and have to break apart. So imagine her surprise when Type: Dusk and Type: Dawn did, first. Dusk was the Wicked Witch, after all, so she was doomed to never have a happy ending. And Dawn raged against this, angry at the humans who created them, that her sister might be used to fight their monsters and discarded for their convenience at the end. Green realized then, as Dawn and Dusk became their enemies, that she couldn’t leave the others, she couldn’t break away. Because she truly, genuinely couldn’t leave people to die, even as she was resenting the people she was saving. But this only confused her more. Her anguish reached its peak when she finally found out what Dawn and Dusk’s goal was. It could only be called the Fantasy Bomb- Created through magic, through story, through determination and anguish, when they activated it, it caused a narrative paradox. A story that ate stories. When they activated that bomb, it would not harm anything physically. It would simply destroy stories. The very concept of stories. Monsters, archetypes, they would no longer manifest, because humans would no longer tell stories. All fantasy would be gone from the world. Only the real, the literal, would be left. And then, they could live happily. Kanin found herself in awe of this plan. And more than anything, she wanted the plan to work. But she alone knew a secret, she had heard the scientists talk about. She talked with Type: Red, the most abrasive member. And then, in their next skirmish with Dawn and Dusk, they faked a huge fight… That soon stopped being fake. Hurtful words were exchanged, and Kanin left crying, shouting her resentment of humans, joining Dawn and Dusk’s side. She worked with them for weeks, helping them, piecing together the mechanics of their plan. And she found herself… charmed. Dawn did everything for Dusk’s sake. Kanin found herself falling for Dawn, her fake heart pounding whenever Dawn smiled at her, so happy that she’d saved at least one of the other Types. And she broke her false heart, burying the pain. She pretended like nothing was wrong, as in their final conflict, when Dawn and Dusk were ready to activate the Fantasy Bomb, she simply betrayed them like it was a matter of course. She had stolen the words, she hijacked their story with her own, and she blasted the bomb to pieces. And just to make sure it stuck, she revealed the truth: Their robot bodies were fakes, even for robots. A human magical robot like them is impossible. Their very existence is supported by the stories of artificial life who yearn for humanity. Pinocchio, Frankenstein, all of them. Every story of a robot who wanted to be real, is what tied these girls to life. Having thoroughly destroyed their plans, and broken Dawn’s heart, she simply blew a kiss and walked away. And as she left them, she just reminded Dawn: “It’s your own fault for trusting a trickster.” Personality: Heroic: Kanin doesn’t realize it herself, or think of it that way, but she is genuinely the most heroic of the ArcheTypes. While she cannot fight like a knight and save people with a sword and shining armor, her heroism takes on a different flavor: She works tirelessly, endlessly, without any reward, just to save humanity, while at the same time, distrusting and resenting and hating humanity. She resents them, she holds a grudge, she wants them to leave her alone and let her live her own life, but she never hesitates even for an instant to jump into the fray to save a life. Flirty: Despite this resentment, she is prone to flirting and hitting on anyone attractive she sees. And her strike zone is pretty wide, too. She enjoys flustering people, and at the same time, enjoys talking people up and uplifting everyone she can. She encourages people to be their best selves, as long as she doesn’t have to get her own emotions into it, and if she can meet some cute people and get some cute dates, all the better. Chaotic Good: Kanin firmly believes that rules are just challenges. Even if it’s a perfectly harmless rule, if she’s told she has to or isn’t allowed to do something, she will immediately attempt the opposite, purely out of spite and contrarianism. The only time she willingly follows the rules is either biding her time for a better chance, or when following one rule now gives her a better shot to break a different one. She also has very little care for laws, and has no moral qualms with stealing whatever she wants, though she at least keeps it to ‘things the other ArcheTypes wouldn’t shame her for stealing’. Bottle it up: Kanin doesn’t let her true feelings show often. Her negative emotions get bottled up and never expressed to anyone. She doesn’t trust anyone with them, really, because she knows her role. She is the Trickster, and everyone knows it. Every time she displays anger or sadness, it’s always part of some trick or plot, and no one would ever believe her real feelings. So, she ignores them. Rules are made to be broken: As the Trickster archetype, Kanin is extremely rebellious. She will, if ordered to do one thing, almost always do the opposite completely out of spite. She’s not unreasonable, and if she’s asked, she can be fairly agreeable, but someone trying to order her or force her to do things will never end well. On the same note, for similar reasons, she sees rules as a challenge. The role of her archetype is to be a transgressor, to break the rules and then reset them as something new. Her role is to break the rules, and in doing so, make people question them. Not just the laws and spoken rules, but even things like etiquette- She exists to make people question the structure of their lives. While this is the only part of her role as her archetype that she actually enjoys, it’s worth noting that it’s not entirely controllable- She feels a narrative compulsion to break the rules. She’s able to resist it, especially on rules that she likes or benefit her, but the more she falls into line, the more at odds with herself she becomes. Carefree? Careless: Kanin is, well. Selfish isn’t quite the right word, considering what she does as a hero. But at the same time, she still generally cares more about her own immediate happiness than that of anyone around her. She’s self-centered, and doesn’t like thinking about the negative consequences her actions may have on others. As long as she’s not actually causing any harm, she is perfectly happy with making other people’s lives harder. Petty: There’s no pretty or fancy way to say it. Kanin is petty as hell. Slight annoyances are to be repaid twofold, and anyone she genuinely dislikes had better be prepared to have her trying to ruin everything they do for her own fun. She’ll generally quit before too long, usually when she finds something more entertaining, but she takes an unfortunate amount of joy in causing trouble for those who she dislikes. Internal conflict: Kanin, despite all her acting carefree, genuinely does worry about how others see her, and deep down, what she craves more than anything else in the world is to be trusted and loved. But at the same time, she doesn’t believe she’s worthy of it, and at the same time as all of that, she thinks she’s dumb for even having these conflicts, because it’s the most stupid and stereotypical thing in the world. Despite this, she cannot help any of this, so she just buries it down deep and doesn’t think about it. Powers and Abilities: Trickster Archetype: - Kanin is the embodiment of the trickster hero, one who uses guile and cleverness rather than direct power to win a fight. As a result of this, the narrative will tend to shape itself around her, so that in a conflict, she will usually be carrying, or otherwise just produce from magic, some innocuous item that can win the battle for her... if she can figure out how to use it right. - She can do almost anything as long as it's unexpected... Which renders her near-totally powerless if someone knows what she is, and thus expects her to do something absurd. - Invisibility, she can cloak herself to move undetected. - Perfect lying. Her lies have no tells, and she is able to fool anyone as long as she doesn't give herself away with mistakes. Robot Magical Girl: - As a robot, is capable of superhuman reflexes, strength, and endurance. - Can connect to wireless systems, and project holograms from her fingertips, as well as create an AR overlay for herself, that only the other ArcheTypes can see. Mostly, this is used to draw silly mustaches on people. - Her base human state is indistinguishable from humans, to the point where superficial wounds bleed red. However, any serious harm causes her to leak something blue and glowing. Magic power, coolant, or liquid narrative- It's simply a product of 'robots bleed strangely' being a trope. - Can transform. In her magical girl form, lines like 'veins' of that glowing stuff appear on her skin, flowing seamlessly onto her clothes, providing a slight uncanny valley effect. Also, she has bunny ears while transformed, thanks to the popularization of rabbits as tricksters. - Perfect aim with archery. - Limited magic. (Basically, can summon/dismiss her giant bow at will, can use MP to increase physical power, generates her arrows out of magic, can cause storms of leaves or vines to grow due to tricksters often being associated with forests (thanks Robin Hood), has the rest of her Archetype abilities) - It isn’t an ability, exactly, as it isn’t something she can control, but her appearance is directly related to her state of mind- The more emotional turmoil and mental dissonance she is going through, the more robotic her body looks, and she is prone to glitching. However, the reverse is also true, and the more at peace with herself and everything she is, the more human she appears. (She believes it is possible that a certain level of emotional fulfillment would lead to becoming human entirely, but that’s still only a guess.) Kanin alone has achieved an impressive level of emotional repression that makes it much harder to knock her back to glitching like that, but it’s still not impossible. Nov. 10th, 2018 08:57 pmIn a world suspiciously similar to Earth, it is the near future, the year 2107, monsters have begun to attack humans. Which is odd, since monsters don't exist.
Monsters, beasts, villains- The Earth's stories have begun to take a life of their own. The sheer weight of the narrative carved into the world has begun to manifest. Monsters- The wicked witch, the big bad wolf, the evil king- have begun to manifest, fueled by humanity's belief in them. The archetypes of evil have been carved into the minds of humanity, and now they act upon the roles given to them.
To combat this, in a place known only as The Capital, a series of robots were made. Made from stories, made for stories, these robots became filled with the souls of archetypes. The archetypes of heroes. And these robots, manifested from the hopes and dreams of humanity, took on their role as magical girls, the Arche Types, to fight the monsters and save all humanity.
Kanin de la Pine is Type: Green, the Trickster archetype. Borrowing from the legends of Robin Hood and other such heroes, she uses a bow.
But Kanin doesn't much like humans. While she is, in her human guise, completely indistinguishable from humans, she always knows on some level that she isn't one. She was made to fight humanity's battles for them, and she resents it, even though she also can't stop fighting, because her resenting doesn't mean people deserve death.
So instead, she just ignores all her emotional turmoil and issues, and just decides to have a good time. She's a flirty, fun-loving girl who is here to have fun, flirting and teasing, and never being truly honest with anyone. After all, that's her role- She is the Trickster.
tl;dr: she's a magical girl robot who is flirting with anyone that moves in order to not think about feelings.
